A few exciting projects are taking shape as the new year begins. One of the most important is a new book commission I received last year—and for the first time, I was able to choose my own subject.
For many years, I’ve been fascinated by the impact digital tools have on the design process, as well as on live performance. Combined with the new challenges that AI poses for us as creatives, it felt like the right moment to bring these questions together in a book. The publication is planned for next year. Getting a book published is, of course, a long process: even after submitting the final draft, it takes a minimum of eight months before release. Still, it will be worth the wait, despite the rapid pace of developments in this field.
On another note, our production of Aida, which premiered last October, will travel to Helsinki this summer. I’ll be going there in March to help the departments realize my designs. Coincidentally, this theatre was also a pioneer in the digitalization of theatre and its production processes, so I’m especially excited to see their tools and working methods.
