This reimagining of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, based on a new script by Russian writer Ilya Gubin, centres on themes of identity and shifting perception that lie at the heart of the story. The internet becomes a key point of reference, reflecting these concerns and offering a contemporary lens through which to view them.
Directed by Michael Hunt with set and costumes by Bettina John, the production explores the internet as a space that mirrors both the surreal nature of perception and the infinite possibilities of youth and imagination, while also revealing its more unsettling qualities as digital environments begin to intrude upon and reshape everyday life. The design uses striking imagery that echoes the visual language of a computer-generated world.
